A tour around our school with Comenius

It is time for a new Comenius Activity. Despite the fact our Comenius Partners were in our school a few months ago, the different Mascots of our Comenius Partner are in our school to visit it with you. After their visit they will have to tell things about us to their friends and the other school students.

BARIS
  RYBECK

 PIERO

So we have to show our school to them, and we are going to create a video to send to our partners school. Also the different mascots have to send a postcard to their schools.

So here you have the process you may follow to achive the final product:

  • You will have to create five groups.
    • Rybeck
    • Piero
    • Bart & Lisa
    • Richie
    • Baris
  • Each group will choose a mascot.
  • You will decided what the tour around the school will be (Example: First the class, then the Computers Room...). You can also think on doing an interview to someone in the school.
    • Create your storyboard. Minimum nine places.
  • You will write the script about what are you going to say in each part of the school.
    • Grammar tickets from A.B.
      • Present simple + Adverbs of frequency (Page 4)
      • Personal pronouns (Page 6)
      • Was / were (Page 8)
      • Possesive adjectives (Page 14)
      • Going to: future plans (Page 16)
      • Past simple (Page 24)
      • Have to / don't have to (page 26)
      • Past simple questions (page 28)
      • Countable and uncountable nouns (Page 34)
      • Some / any (Page 36)
      • Comparative adjectives (Page 45)
      • Superlative adjectives (Page 47)
  • You will record short videos in each school.
  • You will create the final video with the Windows Movie Maker ( You have a tutorial video about how to do it at the end of this post)
  • You will buy or create a postcard about Aguilar de Campoo of the School to send it to the different school. Here you have the Adresses.

THE POPULATION OF SPAIN

It's time to move into a new topic in Science. We will change the way completely because we will pass from the Natural Science to the Social Studies. We have learnt about nature and enviroment until this moment and now we are going to deal with social facts as population, political organization, Europe, other countries.....

We are going to review some concepts about population we learnt last year. This will be useful to apply it to study the Population of Spain.

Do you know what is the population of Spain nowadays? Let's check into your computer the most updated data.

And also, do you know what was the population in Spain when you were born?

Is it higher or lower than nowadays? There are two reasons for this data to change:
  • The comparaison between the birth rate and the death rate.
  • The movement of inmigrants.
POPULATION STRUCTURE:
The population of Spain has some characteristics:
  • There are more women than men.
  • Most of the inhabitants are between 16 and 65 years old.
  • It is ageing. People are getting older.

THE POPULATION DENSITY IN SPAIN.

The population density in Sapin is 93 inhabitants / km2.

In this map you can see what areas has high population density and which of them have low population density.

II PANCAKE DAY & PANCAKE RACE at SAN GREGORIO SCHOOL (English Y6)

II PANCAKE DAY and PANCAKE RACE '13

A bit of history: Pancake Day takes place in Britain on Shrove Tuesday in February. It started as a celebration to use up all the eggss in the kitchen before Lent. All over Britain people make pancakes an they eat them with sugar and lemon juice.

People also have pancake races. The most famous race takes place in the village of Olney in England. Only women and girls can take part. The race started in the 15th century. The story is that on Shrove Tuesday 1445, a woman wanted pancakes for her breakfast. She was in her kitchen when suddenly she heard the church bells.
She ran outside to go to the church in her apron and with her frying pan in her hand! Now there are pancake races all over Britain.

From Happy Earth Class Book 2, OXFORD.

So you have learnt a bit of history about PANCAKE DAY and now you are wondering:

  • What will I need?
    • Traditional costume of housewife:
      • Apron
      • Head covering.
      • Skirt.
      • Frying pan.
      • A Pancake. (You will find the recipies to create it at the end of the post)
    • Some banner for decoration.

  • How long is the race?
    • Depend of the day and your resistance. Look te map:
